Wake: Up to Poetry
Another Sign of Spring
Today is April first. This means it is the first day of National Poetry Month, and April Fool’s Day. It also means that today is Opening Day for the Boston Red Sox. How do the Red Sox relate to Irish poetry? Well for one thing, there are currently two Red Sox fans in the Irish poetry Press office. And since Candide and I are the only ones working today, I can accurately say that everyone working for the WFU Press today is a Sox fan.
Besides that, the Red Sox come from Boston, which is an Irish city if there ever was one. Sox shirts come in green, and shamrocks appear on them as often as the signature socks symbol. The Red Sox are the greatest combination of Irish and baseball; the only combination at that. So at 4:05 today, take a break from reading your poetry and watch some Irish action on the diamond. -Maura
