Wake: Up to Poetry

"The act of poetry is a rebel act."

Chilling with Vona

Lonely, I’m so lonely. I’m the only one working at the Press today, with Candide in Georgia and everyone else doing what they do on Fridays.  Luckily I’m not completely alone.  I’ve got Vona Groarke right here next to me.  On my lap, actually.  The never-ending process of proofing for our new anthology has made me some new friends.  It’s nice to have someone talking to me, even if it’s just in my mind.  And I don’t judge them if they misspell or make grammar mistakes; I simply mark it with my red pencil and continue with the conversation.  I admit, sometimes they make me feel inferior with their elegant ways of speaking.  That’s why I prefer to keep my mouth shut during these exchanges.  Vona is just one poet from our anthology who knows what she’s doing.  We’ve really bonded these past few days and I’m very excited for everyone else to get to meet her. For now though, we’ll enjoy our time together, alone in the Press.   -Maura
