Wake: Up to Poetry
"The act of poetry is a rebel act."
Welcome to the Corner!
This is the WFU Press from a different perspective — that of the interns. Each week, we’ll be posting what we’re up to here in the Tribble basement. And we really do occupy a corner in the Press office — round-table style. This week . . . well duh I’m doing the blog. And we’ll just keep a-posting. I’m here on Wednesdays from 11 to 2. And on Thursday as necessary.
I’m so excited to see what the cover art from student photographers ends up looking like. We got some really cool submissions. Right now, we’re just waiting to hear back from the designer. Today, Laura and Justin did all of the inventory in the back room. I am just going to hate to see them go. It’s like our mother goose is jumping ship and leaving Alyssa and me in the nest all by ourselves. But it’s okay. We’re (no, really just I) learning Photoshop slowly but surely as we prep to be the head honchos for the newsletter. Alas, it’s more like I’m stockpiling the info because I’m going abroad to London during the fall semester, so I won’t be back at it until next January.
Last week, we had a really nice cookout at Dr. Holdridge’s house on Faculty Drive. Just a nice night sans pending Press assignments with some of our favorite English-department people on campus — faculty, families, and students alike. Candide even got us an intern cake. And a rather enthusiastic poetry circle concluded the evening with a bang. Hope we get to do that again. Got to go do some photoshopping. I’ve got a learning curve to conquer.
